Sarah Brush
Sarah is a Practical Theologian and Theological Educator. She is Vice Principal at Ripon College Cuddesdon and heads up Cuddesdon Gloucester and Hereford Pathway. She has a broad experience in pastoral work, firstly as a parish youth worker in High Wycombe and later as a curate in the Borough of Dudley. She served as Worcester Diocesan Youth Officer where she advised all the churches on their engagement with young people as well as supporting educational chaplaincy in secondary, further and higher education and supporting the Church of England Youth Council as chaplain. Sarah was on General Synod from 2015 to 2017 and has previously been on the National Board of Education. She has been a school governor at three different CE Primary Schools, including serving as both chair of governors and Safeguarding Governor. She was the chair of the trustees of Worcestershire YMCA and Chair of the British and Irish Association for Practical Theology and currently serves as a trustee of the Theological Educators’ Network and as a trustee of the St Christopher’s Education Trust. She is on the editorial board of the Practical Theology Hub.
Previous to working for the church, Sarah studied for a PhD at the University of Reading, translating Latin saints’ lives focused on bishops from Merovingian France. She has previously taught Latin, Medieval History, Youth Work and Church History and currently teaches worship, ministry and mission, preaching and reflective practice.
She trained at the Queen’s Foundation for Ecumenical Theological Education, gaining a Masters in Applied Theology. Her current research interests are focused on Faith Development drawing on modern models and wisdom from the tradition especially the medieval mystics.
Sarah co-wrote Moving Images, Changing Lives: Exploring the Christian Life and Confirmation through Film (Church House Publishing, 2011) and has recently contributed to Meanings of Discipleship as well as a book exploring online worship during lockdown called The Distanced Church.
She is a regular volunteer at Greenbelt. In her spare time, she enjoys creativity of various kinds especially lino-cut printing, needle-felting, experimenting with food and paint, watching films, solving puzzles and walking her (Cuddesdon-born) cockerpoo, The Moog.
